They Say The First Step Is Admitting To The Problem

I'm lazy.

There, I said it.

It's actually served me well.

Now your definition of lazy may differ dramatically from mine. I prefer to define mine as "the appreciation of much needed, and well deserved, down time." I adhere to this thought process, nay life style, wholeheartedly and vigorously. I'm quite ambitious in this pursuit of lazytude.

And what has this gained me?

A lack of appreciation and acceptance of my brand of laziness from family, friends, and co-workers. They refuse to even acknowledge that I'm lazy, despite my protests and irrefutable evidence to the contrary. This is an affront to my character and integrity.

So now I'm having to rethink this whole laziness lifestyle. I've allowed an inkling of doubt to creep into my thoughts. And it's maddening. What if they're right?

I like doing my own thing, or several things, and work interferes with that. I want to lounge around. I want to fish or golf all day. I want to read a book in its entirety in one sitting. I want to just simply stare off into space. I want to watch paint dry, or grass grow, so to speak. I want to take a nap when I'm tired. Work always gets in the way. I can't ignore this.

While I freely admit to being lazy my mind refuses to let me procrastinate. If there's something that needs done I can't be lazy. And so I do the work, all in the pursuit of the maximum amount of lazy time possible. You can't half-ass this process if you're truly lazy. You're only fooling yourself if you do, but not me buster. Performing a necessary chore lazily just cuts into true "lazy time." If that's the way you approach this, at least in my mind, you're not taking advantage of real, and satisfying, lazy time.

Hopefully I've inspired at least one person today to embrace this true definition of lazy. Anyone else who claims to be lazy, without approaching laziness in the same manner as I do, is simply a fraud. Don't be taken in by them. I know and live the true path to pure, and perhaps guilt free, laziness.

FINALLY!! Someone who gets it!

I had planned to be the Queen of Lazy while on this break, but so far, not so much. I'm still trying to figure out why my eyelids snapped open at 6am, even though my brain was screaming, "We can sleep in today, dummies!!"

It's supposed to be cold and gloomy here today (my favorite weather!!) so maybe I'll attempt your "read a book in its entirety in one sitting" challenge. ;-)

ChiTown Girl -- My eyes snapped open at 4am, and I got up. I knew sleep was out the door. Plus I've got a million things to do today involving the mini disaster that occurred here Friday. I've also got to work in the granddaughter babysitting gig later today as well.

Enjoy your day, and book!

I'm surrounded by a group of none lazy people it just started to rub off. I was tired of feeling the shame :)

Sy -- There's no shame in being lazy, if you approach it in the same manner as I do. ;)

I right here with you. I am slowly developing laziness into an art form. I get my work done as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to have more down time. Am I always quick and efficient? No. But I do try, because I love having the option to sit down and rest and relax, rather than working.

We have a restaurant near us that has these hilarious signs. One reads:

Ambition:
A poor excuse for not having the good sense to be lazy.

I want to get everything done so I can sit, silently and read without anything to interrupt me.

Although by the time I've gotten everything done, I swear people KNOW I've completed my list and want help on theirs. Freakin' jerks.

Very funny! My son certainly has lazy down to a science. He is very good at being motivated and getting done what needs to be done and then he can turn on his laziness to perfection. I wish I could!

OMG. I sit here, in all of my laziness, reading this post about being lazy, and I feel... like I better get my butt in gear because I only have so much time til the resting and relaxing is over for the day - kids get home from school and then the craziness begins. LOL.

I have been working on my lazy as performance art. OK, maybe non-performance art, but it's art because it is so unique in the American lexicon. This overblown admiration for people who purposfully leap out of bed and into the day, who whistle as they work, who greet everyone with a hearty "good morning!" is disgusting.

Thank you for drawing the emotional mindfield of lazy to the attention of all those of us who have worked so hard at it for so long without recognition.

I feel that my lazy has went from a hobby to a part time job! lol

darev2005 -- Sometimes perfecting takes time.

Stephanie Faris -- I like that sign!

KLZ -- Yuo've got to stop let others infringe upon your lazy time to only increase theirs. That's just not fair. ;)

magicllay ordinary -- You know the younger they are when they start, the better they can perfect this lifestyle. :)

Jessica B -- Oh yeah, kids definitely get in the way of lazy time, there's just no way around that.

Charlene -- I aim to please, at least on occasion. ;)

Crazy Shenanigans -- Now that's pretty ironic. :)

Funny, I'm the kind of person who likes to keep busy but lately I've been a little more mellow...catching up on sleep, quiet time and even a little daydreaming. :) Would you call that lazy? Hmm...

Scarlet -- Possibly? :)

I always appreciate when someone not only owns their own characteristics, but celebrates them.

Sounds like you're doing it right.

I had to laugh at this considering I just ordered a pizza online rather than defrost the one in my freezer.
Very tiring, defrosting.

Sara -- I definitely own the lazy characteristic here, at least my version of it.

Laura H -- lol

Hmm, perhaps I'm less lazy, more of a procrastinator.
